Yuck! I hate eating off those plates and drinking out of those cups. So much so that I've been known to not eat at meetings because that was my only eating option.

Drinking out of foam cups also is a problem for me because I get what feels like a static charge -- much like what you feel when you aluminum foil in your mouth -- when I try to drink from a foam cup. I have gotten to the point that I keep a coffee mug in my car so that I have a backup cup when I'm out and about.

On a cruise once I bought a coffee cup to use during the day because foam cups were the only thing they served drinks from, except in the dining room. I really hate foam cups.

I'd love to see foam cups, plates, and trays banned from hospitality venues and stores.

Check out the ECOnomically Sound articles about foam products http://economicallysound.com/to_foam_or_not_to_foam.html#more and recyclable, compostable, disposable products at http://economicallysound.com/investing_in_the_stalkmarket.html.

Ray, I think corn is a great alternative to petroleum plastics, but I have concerns that it requires special recycling procedures. At the moment, I'm in love wit the bagasse, or sugar cane pulp, products. The bagasse products may not be as pretty for cold drink cups, but they don't require special procedures for recycling or composting.
